National Sportsboy Welson Eyes Golden Splash in SEA Games

PUTRAJAYA: A buoyant Welson Sim has set his sights on bagging two gold medals at the upcoming SEA Games after being crowned the National Sportsboy at the Ministry of Education (MOE)-Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM)-Milo Sports Awards 2014.

The 17-year-old swimmer, who has been in sensational form since joining the national team in 2013, was rewarded for his outstanding performances in local and overseas competitions.

Welson bagged three gold medals during last year’s Perlis Sukma (Malaysia Games) and at the Asean Schools Games in Palembang.

He now aims to improve his tally of two silvers (4x100m and 4x200m freestyle) and one bronze (1,500m freestyle) during his SEA Games debut in Myanmar in 2013.


Welson, who specialises in the freestyle, is targeting a personal glory in the 400m freestyle and hopes to make it a grand double by teaming up with his team-mates to snatch the 4x200m freestyle relay title from hosts and arch-rivals Singapore.

“I couldn’t have wished for a better start this year ... a great outing in my first competition of the year at the New South Wales State Open Championships (ended on Sunday) and today, I received this prestigious award, arguably the biggest recognition you could earn at junior level,” said the jubilant Welson after receiving the award from the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Tuesday.

“This award will certainly boost my confidence as I prepare for the Games in June.

“It will be my second Games appearance and I believe two golds are within reach.

“I’m feeling really good and confident with my pace at the moment, particularly, in the 200m and 400m distance where I qualified for two ‘B finals’ in Australia last week.

And it will be a matter of time before Welson dips below 1:51 for the 200m which will set him closer to Daniel Bego’s 1:49.22 national mark.

At the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre last week, Welson posted a personal best of 1:51.10, beating his previous record of 1:51.90.

Diving prodigy Nur Dhabitah Sabri made it a memorable day for aquatics by scooping the National Sportsgirl award, thus making it yet another clean sweep for aquatics in the second successive year.

Diver Mohd Nazreen Abdullah and swimmer Yap Siew Hui won the Sportsboy and Sportsgirl awards respectively in 2013.

Dhabitah, however, was not present at the ceremony as she is currently undergoing centralised training with the diving team in China. Her mother Fazidah Jaafar, who is an officer with the MOE received the award on her behalf.

Dhabitah’s fine season in 2014 was highlighted by a third placed finish in the 10m platform synchro with Pandelela Rinong at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and claiming the 3m springboard synchro title with Wendy Ng in the Kuala Lumpur leg of the FINA World Grand Prix.

DOUBLE: Diver, swimmer make it a memorable day for aquatics
DIVER Nazreen Abdullah and swimmer Yap Siew Hui made it a double for aquatics at the 2013 Education Ministry Malaysian Schools Sports Council-Milo Awards when they were voted the boys' and girls' Athlete of the Year respectively in Putrajaya yesterday.

Nazreen, a 10-metre platform specialist, outdid himself to win two gold medals at the Myanmar Sea Games via the 10m individual and synchronised (with Ooi Tze Liang) events.

The Bukit Jalil Sports School student also won two gold medals in the same disciplines at the Asian Diving Cup earlier last year where had partnered Mohd Danial Sabri in the synchro.

Siew Hui, a short-distance butterfly specialist, took gold in the 50m and 100m butterfly events at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Indonesia and another two gold in the same disciplines at the Sea Age-Group Swimming Championships in Brunei.

The SMJK Katholik, Petaling Jaya student also mounted the podium at the Myanmar Sea Games after helping the 4x100m medley team to bronze.

The duo, both 16, are equally eager to achieve bigger goals in their young careers this season.

"I did not expect to win this award. I definitely owe this to my parents and coaches as I would not be here without them," said Nazreen.

"Winning at the Sea Games was really big for me. My goal this year is to win a medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. It will be tough but I believe it is not impossible."

Siew Hui said: "I have to thank Paul Birmingham (national swimming coach) and my parents for supporting me all this while.

"I hope to qualify for the Incheon Asian Games and Glasgow Commonwealth Games this year. I will have to work hard to make the cut but hopefully I will get the chance to represent Malaysia."

The pair each received RM5,000, a trophy, medal and certificates.

Squash player Ng Eain Yow and diver Traisy Vivien Tukiet had won the titles last year.

Nazreen, Siew Hui Named Sportsboy, Sportsgirl for 2013

PUTRAJAYA: It was a day to remember for aquatics when diver Mohd Nazreen Abdullah and swimmer Yap Siew Hui were named the National Sportsboy and Sportsgirl respectively at the Education Ministry (MOE)-Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM)-Milo Sports Awards 2013.

The duo received their awards from Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at a leading hotel here on Wednesday.

The 16-year-old Nazreen was rewarded for his outstanding performances in local and overseas competitions, including bagging two gold medals in the 10m synchronised diving and 10m platform at the fifth Asian Diving Cup in Singapore. He also took part in the second Asian Youth Games in Nanjing and the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney.

Nazreen was delighted with the award and hopes to continue to excel in the sport.

Siew Hui, also 16, won four gold medals last year – two each in the 50m and 100m butterfly events at the third Islamic World Solidarity Games in Palembang, Indonesia, and the 37th SEA Age Group Swimming Championships in Brunei. She was also a member of the bronze-medal winning team in the 4x100m medley relay event in the Myanmar SEA Games.

“I’m very happy and excited to have received this award ... actually, it was totally unexpected,” said Siew Hui.

“Next week, there is the MSSM competition. As for international events, there are the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games this year. I need to push myself harder in training so that I can qualify for these two major events.”

Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, was full of praise for the winners.

“I would like to congratulate each and every one of the award winners for their stellar performances in 2013,” he said.

“I am sure that the nation is looking forward to seeing them representing us on a grander stage one day. I hope that the efforts from Milo and MSSM will inspire our youths to go further in their sports careers as well as in their lives.”

Eain Yow's Olympic Dream

SHOULD Nicol David's efforts to get squash into the Olympics become successful, Malaysia's chances of winning a medal at the event in 2020 looks set to be in good hands with up and coming junior Ng Eain Yow.

Eain Yow was yesterday named the 2012 Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM)-Milo Sports Award boys' Athlete of the Year after an impressive season last year.

The-14-year-old, who in January clinched the British Junior Open Under-15 title, did well to win the Dunlop Pontefract Junior Open title (Under-15) in London last year.

He also racked up titles at the Milo All Stars International Junior Open, Penang International Junior Open, Asian Junior Individual Championships, National Junior Title as well as the MSSM Squash Championships title.

Eain Yow said the award, which has been won by big names such as badminton player Rashid Sidek and diver Pandelela Rinong in the past, will inspire him to achieve more in the future.

"I am really quite surprised to win. This is an honour for me and I will continue to work hard to win more titles after this," said the Bukit Jalil Sports School student.

"I have to thank my school and my coach Andrew (Cross) for their support as I would not be here without them.

"The school has been very kind to me and has given me many chances to compete while my coach has taught me a lot in the three years I have been at the school."

Eain Yow, who idolises national player Ong Beng Hee, added that his ultimate goal would be to compete in the Olympics one day.

"It is definitely my dream to compete in the Olympics and hopefully do well there. Even Nicol (David) has not yet had a chance to play in the Games so it would be an honour if I could get the chance."

Meanwhile, the girls' Athlete of the Year title went to national diver Traisy Vivien Tukiet after she qualified for the Diving World Cup and Olympic Games, which were both held in London last year.

She was, however, not able to attend the awards ceremony as she is currently training with the national team in China.

Pandelela Wins MSSM-Milo Gold Award For Second Time

PETALING JAYA Oct 28 — National diver Pandelela Rinong won the Malaysian Schools Sports Council-Milo (MSSC-MILO) Gold Award for the second time, after winning the first in 2008, based on her outstanding achievements throughout last year. The MSSC-Milo Gold Award represents the highest recognition given by the MSSC to students who showed excellent performance in sports at the national and international level.

Her father, Pamg A/K Joheng received the trophy, medal and RM5,000 cash on behalf of Pandelela, handed by Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong at the MSSC-Milo Sports Award 2010, here today.

The 18-year-old diver, a Bidayuh, could not attend the award presentation as she was with the national diving squad in China as part of the preparation for the SEA Games in Indonesia in November.

Pamg, when approached by reporters after the presentation ceremony, said he was proud of the success of his daughter, who is a pre-university student at the Bukit Jalil Sports School.

"I hope this award will inspire her to put up an outstanding performance at the Olympic Games (2012 in London),” he said.

Among her best achievements throughout the whole of last year which qualified her to compete in the world”s biggest sports meet is winning the gold medal in the 10m Individual Platform event and the silver in the 10m Rhythmic Platform together with another national diver Leong Mun Yee at the Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi, India.

In addition, she also won the silver medal together with Mun Yee in the 10m Rhythmic Platform and the bronze in the 10m Individual Platform at the Asian Games 2010 in Guangzhou, China.

Besides Pandelela, former national rhythmic gymnast Elaine Koon also received the Sports Girl award in the form of a medal and RM5,000 in cash for her outstanding achievements.

Among the best achievements by the Form Five student of the Bukit Jalil Sports School were three gold medals in the rope, ball and ribbon events in Sukma 2010 in Melaka besides winning the gold in the hoop event, a silver medal in the ball event and three bronze medals in the overall individual category for the rope and ribbon at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Selangor School Sports Council was the MSSC champion for the 11th time consecutively since winning it in 2001 when it amassed the highest point for the 24 types of sports contested at the MSSC throughout last year.

Foo, Pandelela receive Education Ministry Sports Awards

PUTRAJAYA Oct. 30 - National swimmer Foo Jian Beng and national diver Pandelela Rinong were today awarded the ”Putera Sukan” and ”Puteri Sukan” honours at the Ministry of Education-MSSM-Milo Sports Awards 2008 ceremony.

Among Foo”s acheievments was winning the gold medal in the 100m butterfly stroke as well as in the 50m race, 100m and 4X100m free-style in the Asean Schools Swimming Championshiip as well as winning three gold medals in the Terengganu Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) Games in the 50m and 100m free-style events and the 50m butterfly event.

"I am proud for being picked for the award. I will use this award to boost my spirits in the SEA Games in Laos this December. "As this will be my first appearance in the SEA Games, I will strive for the gold medal in my favourite event, the 100m free-style,” said Foo, a former student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Section 19 Shah Alam, when met after the presentation.

He received a trophy, a medal, a certificate and RM5,000 from Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Foo, who is now busy training under former national swimmer, Marilyn Chua, who had participated in the Barcelona Olympics, said he will take part in the 100m and 50m free-style events in the Laos Sea Games.

Meanwhile, Pandelela was picked for her award following her success in getting sixth place in the 16th FINA World Diving Championship that led to her qualifying for the Beijing Olympics in the 10m platform event.

Pandelela, who is training in Kunming, China for the SEA games, was represented by her father, Pamg Anak Joheng, at the ceremony.

"Since Year One, Pandelela has been interested in swimming and diving. I always advice her not be easily disappointed and to always have strong spirit. I want her to be successful in the sport she loves,” said Pamg.

Also receiving an award was a new diving star, Nur Dhabitah Sabri, 10, from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Putrajaya 8 (2) Presint 8 Putrajaya, who got the Tunas Harapan (Puteri) award.

Her success in winning the bronze in the 3m synchronised diving board event made her the youngest winner in the Terengganu Sukan Malaysia Games last year.

The ”Tunas Harapan (Putera)” winner was Yeoh Li Tian, 10, for chess.

The student of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Yuk Chai, Taman Megah, Petaling Jaya, got third place in the Second Asean Primary Schools Olympiad and the Kuala Lumpur International Open and was champion in the Melaka MSSM Championship.

Zainab Mohamad Ashari was winner of the ”Pendidikan Khas Puteri” as she was winner of the ”Tokoh Kanak-kanak Kebangsaan (Learning Disability Category) and gold medal winner silver medal winner in the Asean 2008 Para Sports in Korat, Thailand.

Muhammad Syafiq Zulfayri Harni was winner of the ”Anugerah Pendidikan Khas Putera” award.

Also winning awards were national wusyu athlete Tai Cheau Xuen (Anugerah Khas Puteri), national equine athlete Muhammad Anas Danial Noradzman (Anugerah Khas Putera), Rozitah Hassan and Matthew Chin Hiong Choi (Anugerah Guru Berjasa) as well as Chua Hong Tham (Anugerah Tokoh Sukan - Kepimpinan).

Foo, Pandelela Penerima Anugerah Sukan Kementerian Pelajaran

PUTRAJAYA, 30 Okt (Bernama) -- Perenang Foo Jian Beng dan penerjun negara Pandelela Rinong hari ini dinobatkan sebagai penerima Anugerah Putera dan Puteri Sukan pada majlis Anugerah Sukan Kementerian Pelajaran-MSSM-Milo 2008.

Antara kejayaan Foo yang melayakkan beliau diumumkan sebagai Putera Sukan sepanjang tahun lepas ialah memenangi pingat emas acara 100m kuak kupu-kupu serta 50m, 100m dan 4x100m gaya bebas pada Kejohanan Renang Sekolah-sekolah Asean serta meraih tiga pingat emas pada Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) Terengganu melalui acara 50m dan 100m gaya bebas serta 50m kuak kupu-kupu.

"Saya berbangga dipilih sebagai penerima anugerah ini. Saya akan jadikan anugerah ini sebagai pemangkin semangat saya pada temasya Sukan SEA Laos, Disember ini.

"Memandangkan ia adalah penyertaan pertama saya dalam Sukan SEA, saya akan cuba meraih pingat emas dalam acara kegemaran saya 100m gaya bebas," kata Foo, bekas pelajar Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seksyen 19 Shah Alam ketika ditemui selepas majlis berkenaan.

Pada majlis berkenaan beliau menerima trofi, pingat, sijil dan hadiah wang tunai berjumlah RM5,000 daripada Timbalan Menteri Pelajaran Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Foo yang kini giat menjalani latihan di bawah bimbingan bekas perenang negara yang pernah beraksi pada Sukan Olimpik Barcelona, Marilyn Chua, berkata beliau akan menyertai acara 100m dan 50m gaya bebas pada Sukan SEA Laos nanti.

Sementara itu, Pandelela pula terpilih sebagai Puteri Sukan berikutan kejayaan meraih tempat keenam dalam Kejohanan Terjun Dunia FINA ke-16 yang sekaligus melayakkan beliau beraksi pada Sukan Olimpik Beijing dalam acara 10m platform.

Beliau yang sedang menjalani latihan di Kunming, China untuk persiapan menghadapi Sukan SEA diwakili bapanya, Pamg Anak Joheng pada majlis Jumaat.

"Sejak dari darjah satu, Pandelela memang minat dengan sukan renang dan terjun. Saya sentiasa menasihatinya supaya tidak mudah kecewa dan sentiasa kuat semangat. Saya juga mahu dia mencapai kejayaan tertinggi dalam sukan yang diminati itu," kata Pamg.

Turut menerima anugerah pada majlis itu ialah seorang lagi bintang baru acara terjun, Nur Dhabitah Sabri, 10, dari Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Putrajaya 8 (2) Presint 8 Putrajaya, sebagai penerima Anugerah Tunas Harapan (Puteri).

Kejayaan meraih pingat gangsa acara terjun 3m papan anjal seirama telah menjadikan beliau sebagai pemenang termuda pada Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) Terengganu tahun lepas.

Bagi Anugerah Tunas Harapan (Putera) pula menjadi milik Yeoh Li Tian, 10, yang melibatkan diri dalam sukan catur.

Pelajar Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Yuk Chai, Taman Megah, Petaling Jaya, itu pernah meraih tempat ketiga Kejohanan Olimpiad Sekolah Rendah Asean kedua dan Terbuka Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur serta menjadi johan Kejohanan Remaja Negara dan Kejohanan MSSM Melaka.

Anugerah Pendidikan Khas Puteri pula menjadi milik Tokoh Kanak-kanak Kebangsaan (Kategori Masalah Pembelajaran) dan pemenang pingat emas dan empat perak temasya Sukan Para Asean 2008 di Korat, Thailand, Zainab Mohamad Ashari.

Sementara itu, Muhammad Syafiq Zulfayri Harni menjadi penerima Anugerah Pendidikan Khas Putera.

Turut menerima anugerah pada majlis tahun ini ialah atlet wusyu negara Tai Cheau Xuen (Anugerah Khas Puteri), ekuin negara Muhammad Anas Danial Noradzman (Anugerah Khas Putera), Rozitah Hassan dan Matthew Chin Hiong Choi (Anugerah Guru Berjasa) serta Chua Hong Tham (Anugerah Tokoh Sukan - Kepimpinan).

TIGA acara yang akan disertainya pada Sukan Olimpik XXIX di Beijing tidak dianggap satu beban besar buat perenang sensasi negara, Daniel Bego.

Sebaliknya, perenang kelahiran Sarawak berusia 19 tahun itu percaya dengan kemampuan yang ada pada dirinya untuk bersaing dalam acara 200 meter gaya bebas, 100 dan 200m kuak kupu-kupu pada temasya Olimpik yang akan membuka tirainya 8 Ogos ini.

Jelas Daniel, dia masih yakin mampu mara ke separuh akhir walaupun terpaksa mengerah keringat beraksi dalam tiga acara.

"Saya tidak pernah berganjak dengan keputusan ini meskipun ada yang memberi pandangan supaya memberi tumpuan dalam satu acara.

"Apa yang penting saya mahu bekerja keras," kata Daniel selepas majlis penyampaian Anugerah Sukan Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia-MSSM-Milo di Putrajaya semalam.

Daniel yang juga bekas pelajar Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil (SSBJ) berkata, dia yakin dengan keputusan untuk menyertai tiga acara tersebut kerana telah berusaha keras untuk melayakkan diri secara merit ke Beijing.

Menurutnya, alasan penat tidak menjadi persoalan kerana acara yang akan disertainya itu tidak dijalankan secara serentak dalam tempoh sehari tetapi dalam tempoh lapan hari.

"Tempoh saringan yang dijalankan selang sehari dan ini akan membantu saya," tambah Daniel.

Daniel turut berjanji akan memberi fokus dalam setiap acara yang disertainya dalam usaha untuk meraih pingat buat kontinjen negara pada temasya kali ini.

Terdahulu, Daniel menerima Anugerah Emas berdasarkan pencapaian cemerlangnya sepanjang tahun lepas termasuk memenangi dua pingat emas, satu perak dan dua gangsa pada Sukan SEA XXIV.

Sementara itu, Pengarah Bahagian Sekolah Harian, Kementerian Pelajaran, Zulkifli Mohd. Wazir berkata, pihaknya sedia menimbangkan insentif kepada pelajar yang berjaya meraih pingat di Beijing.

Katanya, antara insentif itu ialah pemberian hadiah wang tunai, biasiswa dan peluang melanjutkan pelajaran ke peringkat lebih tinggi.

Lima pelajar di bawah Majlis Sukan Sekolah Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) yang akan ke Beijing ialah Bryan Nickson Lomas, Elizabeth Jimie, Pandelela Rinong (semua acara terjun), Khoo Cai Lin (renang) dan Azizulhasni Awang Muda (lumba basikal).

Ahmad Amsyar, Sau Wah Julang SSBJ

PUTRAJAYA – Dua pelajar Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil (SSBJ), Ahmad Amsyar Azman dan Chan Sau Wah diumumkan Putera dan Puteri Sukan pada Anugerah Sukan Kementerian Pelajaran MSSM-Milo 2007 sekali gus meneruskan penguasaan atlet dari sekolah berkenaan sejak beberapa tahun lalu.

Ahmad Amsyar memenanginya atas pencapaian satu emas dan satu perak akuatik terjun papan anjal Kejohanan Peringkat Umur Asia di Jakarta, tiga gangsa Festival Olimpik Belia Australia di Sydney dan dua perak Kejohanan MSSM selain pernah bergelar Olahragawan Harapan SSBJ.

Sau Wah pula diiktiraf atas pencapaiannya ah memungut sebutir emas, sebutir perak dan sebutir gangsa gimnastik artistik Sukan SEA Korat; dua perak, dua gangsa Terbuka Vietnam; tempat kesembilan dan ke-10 Piala Dunia di Shanghai dan dua emas, satu gangsa Kejohanan Kebangsaan.

Kejayaan Ahmad Amsyar bergelar Putera Sukan turut mengulangi pencapaian penerjun negara yang berpengalaman dua Sukan Olimpik 2004 dan 2008, Bryan Nickson Lomas yang melakukannya pada 2004 selain Farah Begum Abdullah sebagai Puteri Sukan 1999.

‘‘Saya tujukan kejayaan ini dan berterima kasih khususnya kepada bapa dan ibu, Azman Hassan dan Rozita Ibrahim selain jurulatih dari China, Can Wein. Inilah yang terbesar dan amat membanggakan saya sejak menceburi sukan terjun ketika tahun enam.

“Anak jati Kangar, Perlis yang lebih menggemari acara 1m papan anjal dan meminati penerjun China, He Chong ini menambah, anugerah itu memberikan perangsang yang lebih kuat dalam mencapai cita-citanya, menyertai Sukan Olimpik 2012 seperti yang dilakukan oleh Bryan,’’ kata Ahmad Amsyar.

Sementara itu, Pengarah Bahagian Pengurusan Sekolah Harian Kementerian Pelajaran, Zulkifli Mohd. Wazir berkata, kementerian bersedia memberikan ganjaran lain kepada atlet pelajar sekolah yang berjaya membawa pulang sebarang pingat Sukan Olimpik Beijing sebagaimana yang dilakukan bagi Sukan SEA Korat tahun lalu.

“Ia bagaimanapun bergantung kepada kelulusan permohonan kami kepada Perbendaharaan tetapi bagi Sukan SEA lalu, kami berikan RM1,000 kepada pemenang emas, RM700 perak dan RM500 gangsa malah kami mempunyai skim biasiswa MSSM tertentu untuk atlet pelajar yang cemerlang melanjutkan pelajaran,” ujarnya.

Lima atlet pelajar sekolah yang bertanding di Beijing ialah Bryan Nickson Lomas, Elizabeth Jimie, Pandelela Rinong ( terjun), Khoo Cai Lin (renang) dan Azizulhasni Awang (berbasikal).

Rayzam, Nabihah terbaik MSSM

KUALA LUMPUR – Atlet olahraga Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian dan gimnas Nabihah Ali masing-masing dipilih sebagai Putera dan Puteri Sukan Majlis Sukan Sekolahsekolah Malaysia (MSSM)-Milo 2006 di sini, semalam.

Rayzam Shah dipilih atas kejayaannya memenangi pingat emas dan perak olahraga Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah ASEAN di Chiangmai, Thailand dan emas Kejohanan Olahraga MSSM manakala Nabihah memenangi enam emas di Kejohanan Gimnastik Artistik MSSM 2006.

Muhammad Rafiq Ismail daripada acara tenpin boling dan pemain skuasy, Yong Sue Ann memenangi Anugerah Tunas Harapan manakala Anugerah Khas diraih Mohd. Azizulhasni Awang daripada sukan lumba basikal dan Chai Fong Wei, yang mewakili wusyu.

Menang
Anugerah Pendidikan Khas pula dimenangi oleh Md. Parhan Dahlan dan Siti Noor Iasah Mohamad Ariffin, hasil kejayaan memenangi emas di Kejohanan Olahraga Pendidikan Khas Peringkat Kebangsaan 2006.
Anugerah Guru Berjasa pula menjadi milik Low Siak San dari Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) St. Paul, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan dan Foo Wai Choodari dari Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tengku Bariah, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu.


Pemenang membawa pulang trofi, pingat dan sijil yang disampaikan oleh Timbalan Menteri Pelajaran, Datuk Noh Omar pada majlis penyampaian anugerah di sini, semalam.

Rayzam, Nabihah Terima Anugerah MSSM-Milo 2007

KUALA LUMPUR, 31 Julai (Bernama) -- Atlet lompat pagar negara Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian dan gimnas artistik Nabihah Ali dimahkotakan sebagai Putera Sukan dan Puteri Sukan MSSM-Milo 2006.

Rayzam, layak ke pusingan separuh akhir Kejohanan Remaja Dunia IAAF di Beijing, China, tahun lepas dan memenangi pingat perak pada Kejohanan Atletik Remaja Asia di Macau tahun lepas.

Nabihah merupakan pemenang enam pingat emas di Kejohanan Gimnastik Artistik Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) dan memenangi tiga pingat perak pada Kejohanan Gimnastik Sekolah Asia di Manila, Filipina tahun lepas.

Bagaimanapun kedua-dua mereka tidak hadir pada majlis penyampaian anugerah yang disampaikan oleh Timbalan Menteri Pelajaran, Datuk Noh Omar di sini hari ini.

Rayzam sedang menyertai Kejohanan Trek dan Balapan Asia di Amman, Jordan sementara Nabihah sedang menjalani latihan di China.

"Saya berharap pemenang pelbagai anugerah hari ini akan terus cemerlang dalam lapangan yang mereka ceburi. Kita tidak mahu melihat mereka hilang selepas setahun dua mencapai tahap membanggakan dalam pertandingan," kata Noh.

Pemenang kategori Anugerah Khas Putera dan Puteri Sukan, Anugerah Pendidikan Khas Putera dan Puteri, Anugerah Tunas Harapan Putera dan Puteri serta Anugerah Guru Paling Berjasa Lelaki dan Wanita turut menerima anugerah masing-masing.

Noh berkata bagi melahirkan lebih banyak atlet berbakat, Kementerian Pelajaran akan membina tiga lagi sekolah sukan di Pahang, Sabah dan Perlis daripada dua yang ada sekarang iaitu di Bukit Jalil di sini dan Bandar Penawar di Johor.

Anugerah Puteri Sukan MSSM -- Sia Ketuai Senarai Calon

RATU renang negara, Sia Wai Yen mengetuai senarai pencalonan bagi merebut gelaran Anugerah Puteri Sukan (MSSM)/Milo yang akan diadakan di Petaling Jaya pada 29 Mac ini.

Sia begitu cemerlang pada Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) di Pulau Pinang pada tahun lalu apabila berjaya membolot 10 pingat emas pada temasya itu.

Selain Sia turut dicalonkan untuk anugerah ini ialah pemegang rekod kebangsaan, yang juga pemenang pingat emas Sukma bagi acara 200 meter kuak dada, Seow Yi Ting.

Majlis anugerah ini turut mempertandingkan 10 lagi anugerah berkaitan termasuk anugerah khas putera/puteri, anugerah tunas harapan putera/puteri, anugerah guru berjasa lelaki/wanita, anugerah pendidikan khas putera/puteri, anugerah emas dan pemenang putera/puteri negeri untuk dimenangi oleh atlet dan pegawai yang cemerlang.
Kesemua nama calon bagi anugerah sukan ini diumumkan oleh Penolong Ketua Pengarah Bahagian Sukan Kementerian Pendidikan, Abdullah Yunus pada sidang media di Wisma MOM, Kuala Lumpur, semalam.

Menurut Pengurus Pemasaran Sukan Nestle, Dina Rizal, anugerah ini merupakan usaha murni syarikat Milo dengan kerjasama MSSM, Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN) dan Majlis Olimpik Malaysia (MOM) dalam memajukan sukan di negara ini.

``Dengan adanya anugerah ini, ia adalah pemangkin untuk mengalakkan lagi pelajar sekolah yang berbakat memajukan diri sendiri dalam sukan serta mampu bersaing di peringkat tertinggi iaitu Sukan Olimpik,'' katanya.

Antara calon yang disenaraikan untuk menerima anugerah Putera Sukan ialah juara kejohanan Golf Remaja Sirkit Kebangsaan, Ben Leong; Mohd Romzi Muhamad (perahu layar); Yeoh Kin Nee (terjun air); Lancelot Chua Kher Wi (ping pong); Mohd Azheem Bahari (terjun air); Tengku Alias Tengku Ibrahim (bola sepak); Mohd Marzuki Abu Samah (olahraga); Md Razman Zabri (kriket); Mohd Redzuan Nadzar (olagraga); Mohd Hairy Afiq Abdul Nasir (kriket); Fairol Mahazi Malek (ragbi); Syahrul Amri Mohd Suhaimi (olahraga); Muhd Faiz Mohamad (olahraga) dan Lu Ten Jian (boling).
