James And Farah Are Top Of Their Class

PETALING JAYA: Two athletes, who took part in the SEA Games in Indonesia last year, scooped the MSSM-Milo national Sportsboy and Sportsgirl awards in Alor Setar.

Winning couple: Rhythmic gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi and swimmer Ian James Barr with their MSSM-Milo National Sportsgirl and Sportsboy awards.

Swimmer Ian James Barr, who won two bronze medals in Palembang in the 200m medley and 4x100m medley relay, was named the top Sportsboy for 2011.

The Sportsgirl award went to rhythmic gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, who won a silver medal in the uneven bar routine at the SEA Games.

They received RM3,000 each from Education Ministry director general Datuk Seri Abdul at the awards ceremony at the Dewan Majlis Bandaraya Alor Setar last night.

Two 11 year-olds from Kedah bagged the most promising athletes awards.

Chess player Mohd Sirafuddin Munawwir Ahmad won the boys’ category while squash player Sivasangari Subramaniam won ithe girls’ category.

Former national team and Kedah Malaysia Cup winning coach Datuk Ahmad Shafie was picked for the Leadership award.
