May Mei Aims To Represent Country In Asian Games

SYNCHRONISED swimmer Tan May Mei, who was recently presented with the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) Principal’s Gold Award, will continue to be active in sports.
The 21-year-old May Mei, one of the 61 students who have completed their matriculation programme in BJSS, is pursuing an accountancy course at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Seri Kembangan.
May Mei said she would continue her training programme and hoped to represent Malaysia in the 2010 Asian Games in Guanzhao, China.

“It will not be a problem for me to devote my time to studying and synchronised swimming. In fact, I have been doing this for the past six years, since I joined BJSS in 2003.
“I will have to draw up a training schedule in accordance with my timetable at the UPM,’’ May Mei said.
The Selangor athlete is now training two sessions a day at the National Aquatic Complex in Bukit Jalil.
Her last competition was the Japan Open in April. Tan was a member of Malaysia’s bronze medal winning team.
Education Ministry sports department director Jame Alip, who presented the certificates, said the students, who excelled in sports, would make good leaders.
“They are not prepared to lose. They will strive for excellence.
“In the end they will be good icons to youngsters.
“For them this is the beginning. We hope these students will excel in their respective sports as well as in their studies,’’ said Jame.
